22-26 of October 2026 This exhibition is a ceramic installation by Gaspar Gorodisch, a physical representation of Macarena Rubio's narrative short film, A Bunch of Broken Pots, which explores Gaspar’s autobiographical relationship with instability, breaking, and clay. In offering the pieces up to ‘the divine gift of breaking ’, Gaspar allows the vessels to 'meet fragility ’.
Gaspar’s work balances the tensions between standing and falling, questioning how far he can push the clay before it stops holding itself together. It is a dance that plays with the limits of what clay can do. The wire and clay caricature pieces represent the imaginative mind, picturing what once was, what is, and what could have been. The larger disrupted vessels, placed precariously on tall plinths, record their own story of resilience, stitched together after breaking.
At its core, Broken Pots explores the sensation of breaking as an unfolding inevitability that occurs and reoccurs; time and time again. In the body and in the mind. This exhibition accepts brokenness as a beginning, and asks what it truly means to be (a) Broken (Pot). Sometimes, in the depths of brokenness, we are forced to pause, sit, and dwell with the Broken. Here, the quiet moments in breaking are allowed to become loud.
The works are arranged to evoke precarity, caught between a fear of falling and its familiarity.
There is a comfortability in returning to Broken Pots.
Artist statement
What do we do with what breaks?
My own injuries have shaped the way I move through the world. Breakage, for me, is not symbolic; it is structural. Its persistence is the ground from which I build.
In clay, I found an empathetic material. It holds the memory of pressure. It yields, it resists, it fractures. If one knows how to listen, it teaches. The edge where balance trembles and collapse feels near should not be avoided, but observed.
Things break, and my work is no exception. But I don’t discard; I mend, allowing the rupture to speak, often saying more than that which was whole.
My studio is built around discarded objects. By collecting street refuse and reclaimed wood, I reinvigorate what was left behind and give it a space to rise again.
My practice focuses less on perfection and more on process, resilience, attention, and the absurdity of it all. To sublimate rupture is to stay close to it long enough to see what it might become.
There is beauty in what manages to hold together after breaking - not in spite of the fracture, but because of it.
