Week 5 - Week 6

The last two weeks have flown by so quickly that I’m only just now realizing how much has happened.

I’m nearing the end of my residency, and the pressure is building. Honestly, my body’s feeling it too.

Weeks 7 and 8 of the blog will go up after I finish here. These next two weeks are going to be intense and I want to have as much time as posible to rest in between making.

I’m looking forward to reflecting on everything once it’s all done!

Thank you for coming along!

Week 5 started with Oli, my sisters, visiting me from London for the weekend.
Oli is one of the most generous and talented people I know, and It was a joy to have her here.
She left me with some beautiful conversations and a series of photographs that she took during the making of one of my most technically challenging pieces so far.
Thank you for such a beautiful gift.
See you soon manita.

Andres Allik, Ceramisist

Andres Allik building a one chamber test kiln

Andres Allik firing V.1 one chamber test kiln Volume up!

I was very fortunate to get to see Andres Allik at work.
Andres is an amazing kiln builder from Estonia and he was visiting Guldagergaard to fix one of the many kilns he has built here.
During his week here he fixed the big kiln he was intending to fix, he solo fired it for twenty hours in absolute silence and he managed to build a tiny test anagama kiln, fire it, open it, change the design to his liking and fire it again.

I learned so much Just by watching him work but also he is an open book when it comes to kiln designs and anything kiln related, so I got to ask him a lot of questions which he very happily answered.

I hope our paths cross again Andres!

Loodan varsti kohtumiseni Andres!

Freshly glazed work

Glazing some of my work to go in one of Fred Olsens firings.
He didn’t leave, he stayed for a whole other week.

Lydia, bottom left

Fred fired his “Fast Freddy” kiln with the help of Lydia and the other artists in residency.
Lydia could have easily fired this kiln by herself but we all got a chance to stoke the fire, check the cones and ask Fred as many questions as we wanted.
I couldnt really help much yet I managed to contribute cutting some wood with a machine and at one point stoke the kiln for a while.
It was amazing to see everyone at work and to be invited to participate.

Visit to Silver Lab in Copenhagen.
I was looking for a Lab to work with for this residency and Im very happy to have found them.
The quality in the scans and the speed that they work at is amazing.
If anyone is needing anything film related in Copenhagen I 100% recommend them.
Thank you Andreas and John for the tour!
