A quick statement
For nearly a year now, I’ve been navigating the challenges of a recurring injury that has troubled me for the past five years. This time, I made the decision to forgo surgery, choosing instead to approach my recovery in the most holistic and least disruptive way possible. My focus is on rehabilitation and taking each day as it comes.
This journey has been far more challenging than I anticipated, and I’m still very much in the midst of it. I’m only now beginning to understand the chronic pain that has accompanied this injury —something that, until now— I kept to myself out of shame.
I’ve come to realize how isolating that silence has been.
The residency I’m currently in is providing me with the space to adapt my workspace to my current abilities, rather than clinging to how I think I should be working. It’s an ongoing battle, but I’m learning to engage with pain more proactively—listening to it, adapting to it, and observing it without judgment.
The work I’m doing now reflects this process of adaptation and relearning. I find myself in the role of my own teacher, striving to cultivate patience and kindness within myself. This experience has deepened my appreciation for the incredible mentors I’ve been fortunate to learn from.
I’m using this platform to share weekly updates on my journey, including thoughts, pictures, videos, and more writing.
Thank you for coming along for the journey
